"Building a democracy that reflects the will of the people — fully, fairly, and fearlessly"
The New America Project
America’s electoral system from local councils to Congress is increasingly out of step with the needs of a diverse, evolving democracy. Winner-take-all elections, gerrymandering, and low voter confidence have led to a system that entrenches division and discourages participation.
To become a truly united, representative, and enduring republic, we must modernize our electoral mechanisms to reflect pluralism, fairness, and civic empowerment. This is not about partisanship. It’s about democratic legitimacy.
Electoral outcomes should reflect the diversity of public will.
Voting systems must be secure, transparent, and trustworthy.
Voting should be easy, accessible, and celebrated.
The system must encourage a diversity of voices and healthy debate.
Districts must be drawn to serve people, not parties.
Support state-level ballot initiatives for RCV and redistricting reform
Provide federal funding incentives for states that adopt voting modernization practices
Launch a public awareness campaign on voting system alternatives
Convene a National Electoral Reform Task Force to provide best practices and model legislation
Encourage partnerships between civil society, tech experts, and election administrators
For Citizens:
Advocate for RCV and fair maps in your city or state
Vote in local redistricting board elections and attend public hearings
Educate others on how voting systems shape outcomes
Support pro-reform candidates and ballot measures
For Civic Organizations:
Launch or support state-based RCV and PR campaigns
Host community events and voter literacy trainings
Publish tools that model how electoral reforms improve representation
For Legislators:
Sponsor legislation enabling RCV, PR, and fair redistricting
Create open forums for electoral reform proposals and debate
Protect voter access and fund secure, auditable voting systems
"No political system is sacred unless it serves the people it represents. By modernizing America’s elections, we renew the promise of government by the people... for today and for the thousand years ahead."
